What is Victim Support?

People react to crime in many ways, and may be seriously affected by it’s impact. People who have suffered a crime may need practical information and advice, or simply someone to talk to.

Victim Support is the independent national charity which helps people cope with crime. Trained volunteers, based locally will contact people after a crime to offer free, confidential support and information. People are referred to Victim Support by the police and other organisations, or just contact us themselves to ask for help.

Victim Support in Court

Victim Support’s Witness Service helps victims, witnesses and their families and friends before, during and after a trial. Trained volunteers, based in all Crown Courts and magistrates’ courts offer emotional support and practical information about what happens in court, including arranging pre trial visits to the court.

Victim Support and Domestic Abuse

Victim Support has specialist Domestic Violence trained volunteers to give you information, practical help and emotional support if you have been threatened or abused. Our service is free and available to everyone.

If you are a victim of domestic violence, we want to help you. We will:

  • Always prioritise your safety and confidentiality if you choose to talk to us
  • Give you time to think and to make decisions
  • Offer you continuous support regardless of the decisions you make
  • Put you in touch with other agencies that can help, for example, Women’s Refuge, housing, CAB and legal advice.
  • Help you to explore the choices that are open to you.

If you would like some help from Victim Support, then please call one of our Victim Care Officers on 0845 389 9528 who will discuss your needs with you and arrange for a volunteer from the Horsham area to contact you.
